Frequently Asked Questions (updated December 2023)

Q: When does registration open for the new season?
A: Registration opens September 1 at 6pm after we have finalized our ice rental contracts and program times, have our insurance from Skate Canada to the CRVD, and build the programs on the website.

Q: My child is completely new to skating, where do we start?
A: Our PreCanSkate program is for new skaters 3+ beginning their on-ice journey.

Q: My child has skated before, which class should I sign up for?
A: Our CanSkate program! Our club follows the Skate Canada curriculum, so to ensure everyone on ice is in the program suited to their skill level, our coach will assess skaters in-lesson and recommend moving sessions as skill levels develop. Unfortunately, we do not have ice time to do out-of-lesson assessments.

Q: Do you have learn to skate programs for adults?
A: We are mainly a youth sports club, but CanSkate is technically an all ages program and we have had a few adults join!

Q: Are bike, ski or skateboard helmets approved?
A: Skaters working on CanSkate STAGE 5 and below, as well as all skaters in the PowerSkate program, MUST wear CSA approved hockey helmets. Please see the Skate Canada website for further details.

Q: Why have fees increased this year (2023-2024)?
A: Our club has not increased fees; however, the Skate Canada Membership cost has increased. Read more details from the source here.
